What is Couperose and what can you do against it?

Litte red veins on the nose, cheeks or even on the chest? It could be Couperose! Couperose is not an illness but a cosmetic issue. Learn more about it in our article below.

What is Couperos?

Couperose is not an illness but a cosmetic issue. It is simply a genetically caused enlargement of capillaries. Different from the inflamed skin disease Rosacea which should be treated with the help of a Dermatologist.

Couperose starts with single visible veins. Further symptoms often are also permanently visible, diffused redness and enlarged veins in the area of the nose, the cheeks and the chest. Most of the time, Couperose goes hand in hand with a rather dry and very sensitive facial skin. Reason are weaknesses in capillaries walls and the connective tissue. Is the skin exposed to fluctuations in temperature, the body pushes a larger amount of blood to the veins to regulate the cold or hot. This naturally occuring process can lead to a permanent expansion of weak capillaries which shows the well-known image of Couperose.

Who is affected by Couperose?

Skin Experts estimate that already every 3rd woman over 30 leans to visible redness due to a genetically caused or acquired vascular weakness. Additionally Couperose is favored by temperature fluctuations. This doesn't only refer to heated air inside and cold temperatures outside but includes also all sorts of recreational activities such as sunbathing, sauna or extreme sports. The skin is exposed to a high amount of temperature fluctuations on a daily basis. Paired with a high volume of stress, alcohol or spicy foods, the risk of Couperose is increased tremendously.

Even some fragrances or a high content of alcohol in skincare products have to be enjoyed carefully. Using the proper skincare product is especially important in this case.
